The Health Benefits of Fresh Herbs are not to be Underestimated!
Remember to add your favourite fresh organically grown herbs to your grocery order each week.
The addition of a bunch of herbs gives any dish a complete lift of fresh flavour AND the bonus of all the added nutrients – here’s a quick overview of three favourite herbs:
MINT – Far more than a breath freshener, mint has been used for hundreds of years for its remarkable medicinal properties. Mint can be used to alleviate digestion issues, nausea, depression, improve memory, asthma and other respiratory disorders. Mint leaves contain some essential vitamins like A, B-6, C, E, K, beta carotene, folate and riboflavin plus minerals; calcium, iron, potassium, magnesium and manganese.
CORIANDER – This plant is anti-septic, analgesic, aphrodisiac, helps with digestion, fungicidal and a natural stimulant. Coriander is full of an unusual array of healing phytonutrients and anti-oxidants. Good source of vitamins A, C, K and traces of the B vitamins, calcium, potassium, iron, manganese and sodium.
ROSEMARY – Rosemary is traditionally used to help alleviate muscle pain, improve memory, boost the immune and circulatory system, and promote hair growth. Rosemary is also a good source of iron, calcium and vitamin B6.
With the exception of lemongrass all these fresh herbs are under $3.40 a bunch!
We hope to see basil back in soon for all those summer salads and pesto… YUM.
Later this week Janine shares a carrot salad recipe that is all about the MINT! So keep some carrots spare!!

Lauren works both as a doula and as a yoga teacher (having practiced many styles of yoga over 18 years – including Ashtanga, Jivamukti, Hatha Vinyasa, Yin, Kundalini, Power, Restorative and Prenatal Yoga).
Lauren says: My work as a doula, attending births on a regular basis, has brought me to an even greater awareness of how powerful women are, and how unbelievable the body is. I’m extremely grateful to every family that allows me into their birth space. Being a doula is a very special job, one that I take very seriously. Birth changes lives and it changes who you are or what you thought you were. Huge transformations and emotional changes! I love the power of birth!
